Shiatsu

Shiatsu is  form of traditional Japanese massage therapy that has been practiced for centuries. Shi-Atsu in Japanese means "finger-pressure". Shiatsu massage involves the use of finger pressure on specific points of the body to promote balance, harmony, and self-healing.

Shiatsu is based on the principles of traditional Chinese Medicine, which views the body as a network of energy channels called meridians. According to this theory, the flow of energy (called "Qi") can be disrupted by stress, illness, or injury, leading to imbalances and health problems. Shiatsu massage aims to restore the flow of energy and promote self-healing by applying pressure to specific points along the meridians.

During a Shiatsu massage session, the therapist uses their fingers, thumbs, palms, and sometimes elbows and knees to apply pressure to the body's acupressure points. This pressure can range from gentle to deep, depending on the individual's needs and preferences. The therapist may also stretch and manipulate the body to release tension in joints and muscles and improve flexibility.

Shiatsu massage is a holistic therapy that focuses on treating the whole person, rather than just the symptoms. It can be used to address a variety of health concerns, including chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and digestive disorders. Shiatsu massage can also help reduce stress and promote relaxation, which can have a positive impact on overall health and well-being.

The work is traditionally done on a futon mat or body cushion on the floor, but a massage table or chair can be used as well. The course of treatment and choice of technique are planned individually, according to client's current needs.

Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular treatments can alleviate stress and illness and maintain health and well-being.

What is Shiatsu Shin Tai?

In my practice I specialise in Shiatsu Shin Tai, an innovative style of Shiatsu developed and evolved by Saul Goodman. This form of bodywork helps to clear stress from the body and restore vitality and inner balance.

Shiatsu Shin Tai incorporates a unique synthesis of techniques, including structural, fascia, meridian, and chakra work. By using these techniques, a Shin Tai practitioner can release tension and blocked energy in the body, promote relaxation, and restore balance to the body-mind system.
